Following up on our previous reflection from Surah Maryam, what is it that keeps us from making that plea to Allah?
What is it that prevents us from truly connecting to Allah, and making that dua that we know that we need? Are we worried that Allah is not listening? Are we worried that our dua isn’t pious enough, or that we are righteous enough for our dua to be listened to?
If we are worried, and if we are fearful that Allah won’t respond, well we shouldn’t worry, and we shouldn’t fear. As Allah says in the Quran:
‘لا تخافوا ولا تحزنوا
‘Don’t be afraid, don’t be stressed out.’
As soon as you’re making the dua, you’re already where you need to be. You are already where you are supposed to be. When we are making that dua to Allah, and we are connecting with Him, there is no other place that we could possibly be that would be better than that, because we are connecting to Allah (swt) and we’re doing our own silent yell like Zakariyya did.
‘يَرِثُنِي وَيَرِثُ مِنْ آلِ يَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَاجْعَلْهُ رَبِّ رَضِيًّا’
‘I want my successor to inherit my legacy, the legacy of the family of Yaqub.’
Yaqub and his many sons and those tribes – Zakariyya is from them, and he has inherited that legacy and he wants his successor to also inherit that legacy.
And then the response comes. Even though his wife is old; even though he is worried about the future. Him and his spouse are both old, and it’s not generally an age where people have children but then the response comes:
‘يَا زَكَرِيَّا إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ اسْمُهُ يَحْيَىٰ’
‘Here’s the good news: You are going to have Yahya.’
And Zakariyya is a Prophet, but even he is surprised, and he says:
‘قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي غُلَامٌ‘
‘How can I have a child?’
‘وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتِي عَاقِرًا وَقَدْ بَلَغْتُ مِنَ الْكِبَرِ عِتِيًّا’
“We are both old, ya Allah. How is this going to happen? We’re old; we’re barren. How is this gonna happen?’
‘قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَيَّ هَيِّنٌ وَقَدْ خَلَقْتُكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْئًا‘
‘I created you, didn’t I? This is easy for me,’ Allah says.
So don’t think that your dua being answered is impossible. Don’t we believe that Allah is unlimited? And don’t we believe that Allah can do anything? And don’t we believe that Allah is All-Powerful? And don’t we believe Allah is Almighty?
Then why don’t we just make the dua? Why don’t we just do what we are meant to do?
We’re afraid… We’re afraid…
Maybe we have the wrong idea. Maybe we think we have to be at a certain level of piety. We have to be a prophet like Zakariyya and then…
But the tears of the sinner are more beloved to Allah than the arrogance of the worshipper.
The tears of the sinner are more beloved to Allah.
And so, we should all be having that moment of ‘نِدَاءً خَفِيًّا‘ – that silent yell.

Ya Allah
Please help the suffering Muslims from all around the world, for surely you are As-Sami, and you can hear the cries of the oppressed and feel wrath towards the oppressors. Please give them the strength to carry on, no matter how hard it gets, and always always remember you in times of hardship and ease. Ya Allah thank you for all the blessings you have bestowed upon us, and continue to bestow upon us as well. Ya Allah words cannot quantify the amount of gratitude and praise that is belonged to you so I say with my whole heart opened up to you thank you, and please bestow forgiveness, peace, and blessings upon the ummah. Allow our faith to be rock solid and unyielding, for surely faith in you only brings out the best. Ya Allah bring those who have stumbled off the path back towards you, for surely you are Al-Noor, and light the way back to you. Ya Allah help those who have passed on from this pandemic and provide strength and inner peace to their loved ones. Ya Allah protect us from sickness on both the outside and in, and let us strive to be better sons, daughters, significant others, siblings, and most importantly, better Muslims. Ya Allah protect us and our children from that which corrupts our soul, whether it be in haram business dealings/income, or twisted morals. Ya Allah please remove this pandemic from us, and allow us to learn from our mistakes. Ya Allah protect the children and teenagers, from the evil of this world for surely no mother could ever even come close to them amount of protection you provide for everyone. Ya Allah with this closing dua I ask that all of us and our families all shall lounge in the best recliners in Jannah, among those whom you have loved. Ya Allah send infinite blessings and peace upon the beloved holy prophet (SAWS), his companions, and so many other important Islamic figures who aren’t in our history textbooks, who put everything on the line just for us to be Muslim and have a chance of getting to Jannah. Ameen.

Ma sha Allah. May Allah make us among those that silently yell to him for pardoning ya rabbi. Great reminder.
Ameen! Thanks for reading.

I feel absolutely convinced and determined now than ever before. I believe Allah listens to everyone be he woman or man. As human we sometime feel we are not connected with Allah and not sure he is listening to us.
I pray that Allah always give us the strength and faith even when put us to sleep. Ameena.
Alhamdulillah, absolutely.
The story and Dua of prophet Zakariya is so beautiful and touches the very being og human existence. It is indeed a beautiful narration of how close and near Allah SWT is to His creation. Allah SWT listens to our dua’s even when they are in the depths of our heart and being, all we have to do is ask and Allah SWT will fulfill and provide from ways beyond our wildest dreams. Aameen.
